The Fed is keeping its target range for interest rates at 5-1/4 to 5-1/2 percent. Economic activity continued to grow at a solid pace. The increase in the number of jobs has moderated, and the unemployment rate has increased, but remains low. Inflation has decreased over the past year, but is still somewhat elevated (progress towards the 2% inflation target). The FOMC seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at a rate of 2 percent over the long term.
