Bank Rate increased to 3% – November 2022 | Bank of England

The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (BoE MPC) has announced its seventh interest rate hike this year, by 0.75 percentage points (to 3%) to meet its inflation target of 2% (to sustain growth and employment). Certain fiscal support continues, with a guaranteed price (six-month period) of energy for households. The aim is to limit the further increase in the energy component of CPI inflation and reduce its volatility. However, with the growth of total private demand compared to the last quarter, inflationary pressures in non-energy products and services are increasing (expected CPI 2022 Q4 is 11%). Falling real incomes will affect demand and slow GDP during the first half of 2023, including a rising unemployment rate.
